Digging Deeper: Supporting Reading Comprehension in Upper Primary Classes

In this session, we will review five major recommendations for supporting comprehension in upper primary based on current reading research. We will then discuss different routines that can be used to teach students how to analyse and interpret fiction and nonfiction texts, developing stronger reading comprehension skills. Examples of instructional strategies and student work will be presented. We will dedicate the final portion of the session to applying this information to our own contexts.
