An introduction on how to implement the literacy program developed by the University of Florida Literacy Institute. This program is based on the Science of reading. It is an explicit and systematic phonics program that follows a sequence that makes sure students develop early literacy skills to have a reading foundation.
I will present differentiated ways to adjust the UFLI lesson for students at various stages of learning and help suggest ideas for different language time blocks.
I will go through the lesson routine and talk through the various resources that are free and available to educators interested in trying the program.
This session is intended for teachers who have a basic understanding of the research behind the science of reading (Scarborough's reading rope, phonological awareness etc.) so we will jump right into the lesson routines.
