Introduction to the UFLI Structured Literacy Program
Sunday September 22, 2024 9:00am - 10:00am CEST
An introduction on how to implement the literacy program developed by the University of Florida Literacy Institute. This program is based on the Science of reading. It is an explicit and systematic phonics program that follows a sequence that makes sure students develop early literacy skills to have a reading foundation.

I will present differentiated ways to adjust the UFLI lesson for students at various stages of learning and help suggest ideas for different language time blocks.

I will go through the lesson routine and talk through the various resources that are free and available to educators interested in trying the program.

This session is intended for teachers who have a basic understanding of the research behind the science of reading (Scarborough's reading rope, phonological awareness etc.) so we will jump right into the lesson routines.

IB Command Terms Project
Sunday September 22, 2024 10:15am - 11:15am CEST
In this session, we are going to explain Command Terms Project for Mathematics tailored to lower school students at International School of Stuttgart (ISS). Our primary focus is on creating an engaging and aligned curriculum that not only introduces essential mathematical concepts but also cultivates a deep understanding through hands-on activities and real-world applications. The project aims to align with the developmental stages of lower school students, ensuring that the content is age-appropriate and promotes a positive learning experience. By incorporating Mathematical command terms, we intend to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills from an early age. The curriculum will be designed to foster a collaborative learning environment, allowing students to work together on math tasks that require teamwork and communication, and alignment with our MYP and DP departments. This project seeks to instill a love for mathematics by making it relevant, interactive, and enjoyable for our lower school students, ensuring a solid foundation for their future mathematical endeavors.
