Description: This interactive workshop is designed to equip early years and elementary educators with the tools and knowledge to implement the FIRST LEGO League Explore program in their classrooms. Participants will engage in hands-on activities using LEGO kits to explore the fundamentals of this globally recognized STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiative. The session will begin with a brief overview of the FIRST LEGO League Explore program, highlighting its objectives and impact on young learners' development. An introduction on how to implement the literacy program developed by the University of Florida Literacy Institute. This program is based on the Science of reading. It is an explicit and systematic phonics program that follows a sequence that makes sure students develop early literacy skills to have a reading foundation.

I will present differentiated ways to adjust the UFLI lesson for students at various stages of learning and help suggest ideas for different language time blocks.

I will go through the lesson routine and talk through the various resources that are free and available to educators interested in trying the program.

This session is intended for teachers who have a basic understanding of the research behind the science of reading (Scarborough's reading rope, phonological awareness etc.) so we will jump right into the lesson routines.

Proper breathing techniques and movement can greatly benefit students’ attention, focus and learning. In this session we will have a brief overview of the science behind breathwork and movement, and how it can benefit students in a school setting, or anywhere! Kristine is a level 1 SOMA Breath instructor and will provide some activities to get you moving and breathing!
